What is the best lens to use for them. This seems to be a weak area for me. I have been using my 75-300 because I like the depth of field that it gives me. I noticed that with this lens sometimes a hand or etc is cut out of the picture so I'm thinking its not wide enough? Any tips for taking full body shots will be much appreciated.

Back away from your subject?

A wide-angle. Tamron AF 10-24mm $579.79, Canon EF 17-40mm more expensive tho. You van use a telephoto but you'd have to get some distance and you will get very nice bokeh out of it.

For DX lens

17-85mm f4.5-5.6
10-22mm f3.5-4.5
18-135mm f3.5-5.6

A wide angle on a full body shot is going to create some rather unflattering pictures.

Just to throw some focal lengths out there with a reasonable camera-to-subject distance.......

Cropped sensor: Full body-35mm > 3/4 shot-50mm > head & shoulders-85mm

FF sensor: Full body-50mm > 3/4 shot-85mm > head & shoulders-105mm

I have a tammy 17-50 and i can easily take a full body shot by putting my camera in a vertical position from about 5 feet away at 17mm's on a apc-s sensor (so multiplied by 1.6).
