Planted a dogwood tree out front. Wife wanted it in remembrance of our son. She put the orange ribbon on it for leukemia awareness.
A wonderful way to remember him. I planted a rosebus in a half-barrel for my son Daniel. We got a memorial plaque that we'll put with it once we can get the family together. Inlaws are visiting in a couple of weeks, so that will probably be when we have a small ceremony.

I have two tomato plants in containers, very straggly at the moment due to the rain and wind and location. I noticed that some of the lower tomatoes were going missing. Caught my Daisy pulling them off and trying to eat them (not good for dogs I'm told), and I stepped outside and told her to spit it out, and she did just that with a pretty decent projectile too. Unfortunately, no pix of her pulling at the plant that are worth posting, because of the angle and the fact that had I gone out, she would have stopped.

This honeysuckle smells amazing. There is a soft breeze sending the fragrance right to our back deck. The sun is out, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and my neighbor’s landscapers are using those freakin leaf blowers at 7:45am.

I love the scent of honeysuckle and jasmine! And hate the sound of leaf blowers and lawn mowers at 7:45AM. I have plans to add honeysuckle and jasmine to my yard at some point. We are debating removing the yaupon hollies from the back of the house and adding jasmine and honeysuckle.

There really should be noise ordinances assigned to landscapers. Keep things quiet until 8am, and be out of neighborhoods by 7pm.

Beautiful honeysuckle! What variety is this one?

Those gas powered leaf blowers are completely unnecessary with the possible exception of a few weeks on the fall. They should be banned. The electric ones work fine without the noise pollution.

@terri that’s a “Scentsation” honeysuckle. It’s a cultivar from Proven Winners (? I think). Supposed to be infertile so won’t spread by seed. They’re not really invasive up here so not doesn’t matter all that much.

Thanks! I'm in Zone 6, so I don't overthink "invasive" much, either. The South is where that really becomes a concern, with a much longer growing season.

I'm mildly disappointed with my Major Wheeler. I knew it was a shorter bloom period but mine's also still fairly scrawny and just didn't do much this year, which is why I was asking about yours. I could perhaps pop another one close to that trellis or just wait until another season comes. It's clear across the yard and I have visions of lots of red blooms bringing the hummers into the yard!

Closer in I'm thinking about a different varietal with an extended summer bloom.

My Mjr Wheeler is still blooming strong so maybe yours just needs to get more established. I think year 3 is when everything takes off so I would give it until then. I’ve seen our little hummingbird friend over there at it several times this week but he can hide in there better than he can at the feeder so can be hard to spot. He’s gone to the regular honeysuckle a few times too but mostly he prefers the other.

Yeah, I know I'm being impatient. I just planted it last year, so I'm only entering year 2. It's the color I love best. If I did anything this year it would likely be to sneak another one next to it like you did.

The original one was on the smaller side - we ripped out a lot of dead bushes and a dead tree along that fenceline, but still encounter tough old roots when planting in some areas, so smaller is easier.

I been trying to grow my sunflowers and it's been an on going battle with chipmunks. They keep eating my seeds. Probably not the best spot but I tried my best to cover them up. They still got in there. So I added lemons, I been dumping my coffee grounds in there and I brushed my cat and spread his hair everywhere around it 😂

So far so good...I don't think they liked the cat hair.

Next time I'll just build a raised flower bed and then they won't be getting in.
