Geneva - Street Photography (B&W)

Hi all,

Just got back from a w/e away in Geneva. Nice town with good photos opportunities.

Had a good test of the new 70-200L. Lovely lovely lens to use. Focusing is super quick, and even with it being 'non-IS', just boosting the ISO a touch means blur isn't much of an issue.

Here are some street shots from Geneva converted to b&w. Hope they convey some of the atmosphere of the city.

Apologires from the off, I was quite lazy with my b&W conversion and ended up doing the high contrast change in Lightroom (I usually use the channel mixer in CS3), so the blacks are a touch on the dark side. But anyway, hope they don't spoil too much...

Lazy or not lazy, that is the question.
You could just have said you WANTED them this contrasty, and we would all have thought: "OK!"
For I think the stark contrasts work fine here. Better than milky-grey b&w photos. I have a favourite one, too. It is Photo 6.

And other than that, Photos 1 and 8 have caught my attention more than the rest. I like the aspect of black and white in 1 and the way the leaves fill up the dark background behind them to a certain extent. And I like how you got the focus so right in 8. If I had been there, I'm sure I'd have muddled that one up, having the focus somewhere inbetween the background and the cyclists.

Your street photography skill is superb. I had yet seen such a wonderful series of street shots

While I do not particularly like the tones, I do however like #10.

I'm a fan of #5 AND the high contrast, nice work. Did you maintain a particular F-stop for all of these or...?
