Yeah, it cost me, but it's a write-off... and my time is worth money... lolol

70? that is quite cheap

I went for a 24 inch wide screen ... quite nice and takes up less space.

That's pretty deluxe. I had to build myself a new system last month because my motherboard went gunnybag on me and newegg didn't have any decent Socket 754 motherboards anymore, so i figure it was time to go to a newer socket,, Dual core, Dual channel DDR, and PCI-E.

I went the AMD/Nvidia route though

Well, thought about it, also since one third of all AMDs are produced in Dresden, Germany
But then again prices were pretty ok for the intel when i ordered. Would have probably chosen Nvidia if I wanted a higher end graphics card. But then again I am not really an extreme gamer and would not need that.

no..i have two nvidia 7950 in sli

but i have a friend who just got the 1950...and he plays lots of video games..and it looks to run very smooth ...and since your not an avid gamer im sure its going to be even more then you need..

See, i could have built an intel system, but the motherboards themselves aren't exactly cheap, and I was able to get a faster system though AMD because the CPU's and motherboards are generally less expensive. I don't play games hardly at all anymore, but I don't want to chimp on the video and upgrade in a few months. I built my new system so that the only reason I'd have to open it up would be to clean it, not upgrade it.

I did however, notice a night and day difference in the performance of lightroom and CS2. Going from a socket 754 3200, 1GB single channel RAM, and 6800GT to an X2 4200, 2GB dual channel and an 8800GTS made a HUGE difference in just about everything. Now i can run lightroom and CS2, and have them doing processes in each one with little difficulty. I couldn't do that with my olde system.

Well, I guess my improvement will also be considerable .. my current computer is 4 years old and had pretty much problems when trying stitching, or raw converting

what was the approximate cost for new MB, memory and CPU?

I'd like to upgrade by just moving HDs over.
My PC uses a 3 yo P4P800 Asus board with a P4 overclocked to 3.4 and 1 gb memory.
My bottleneck is in processing and before I buy more RAM, I'd like to get some idea whether a dual core MB would speed things up.

i started to build my own computer then i was like for 1300 total i could buy a mac that ive been wanting so i stoped building and dindt buy the mac either, i got a girlfriend instead hehe
