Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
So, I just bought myself recently a Nikon d3100 + tamron 28-75 2.8 and a nikkor 50mm 1.8. It is yet to arrive.
So far I have always shot with point and shoot, and this will be my first DSLR.

Anyway, I've got a couple of pics taken with a p&s that I really liked, of my girl.
Since it's a p&s, I couldn't get the out of focus background, so I tried playing a bit with photoshop.
I know most won't want to really comment on the pics, since it was with some p&s, but I am mostly looking for comments on composition and how the pic looks after some editing, and maybe if the blurs are not realistic at all. Though with my new DSLR and lens, I should be able to get most of it right out of the camera.

Cheers

This one is one I took spontaneously and did not look good at all and had everything in focus.
Then I tried applying some depth of field principles to the pic, using photoshop, and this is what I got.

I see no pics, but good choice on the lenses, especially for portraits. I'm guessing you did your research before you bought.

hmmm still can't see them? I can see them here myself.
If no one can see it, I will update the thread with new links then. Anyways, the links for the pics are:

he lenses, yeah. I changed my opinion about 10x and stayed up late many nights trying to decide on which lens to get. But in the end, I think I made some good choices :) Can't wait for them to arrive!

They're all very clearly photoshoped. I wouldn't worry about trying to create fake shallow DOF with your P&S images. Rather, wait until your camera gets here, learn to use it, and learn to create *real* shallow DOF with your images. They'll look much better that way. :sexywink:

Congrats on the camera. I bet you're excited! I know I was when I first got mine. :sillysmi:

Yeah it's pretty hard to fake it, quick feedback for composition...1 bangs in front of face not generally a sought after look. 2. showing leg on girls generally a good thing but the dress being flipped inside out doesn't work, it is the best cropped photo IMO. 3 is probably just a fun snap shot photo. Just cuz it's a point and shoot doesn't mean you can't get great photos. Some of my favorite photos are from a point and shoot, I think the image can make up for the camera in some instances.

You can fake bokeh but you have to understand how bokeh works. It's just not, background is blurred, it has to do with your distance, your focal length... You can imitate it but you have know the corresponding low DOF should look at your focal length. I think there's a website online where you can play around with DSLR controls and you can figure out how the bokeh should local at your settings.
