Shot this at sunset and I'm really happy with how it came out, especially the sky!

You should be.
It's beautifully exposed, nicely composed.
Perhaps a tiny bit of sharpening to make it pop some but just lovely.
Traveler could you tell explain to me why this exposure was excellent? I love the pic and want to know how I could get a shot like this as well.

This was late enough (or early, probably late) in the day that the sun was low and diffused by a thick but variegated cloud cover. Thus the dynamic range was well within the range of the sensor. The exposure was enough that the detail in the tree was captured perfectly. What is specifically lovely is that the golden sunlight is bouncing off of the branches (the sun wasn't directly behind the tree) and giving us detail in the tree, where it is wanted.
The camera is low enough that the tree looks prominent and commanding but high enough that near and far ground is visible thus giving the image depth.
Tree is placed in the right third with a 'wall' of lower trees behind it, giving at once a feeling of spaciousness to the image and a 'direction' to it. The messages of all the components come together to say this lone majestic tree sits in the golden light overlooking this spacious beautiful valley.
All this with 1's and 0's well managed.
