Hi guys, first post!

I just bought the 5D Mark III, with the 50mm f1.4 for portraits.
As the title says, I want to shoot snowboard pictures, but I also want the lens to be a good allrounder.
For example landscape, car photography, etc.

Price: 1500$ or less

What lens should I buy?

Hope my English is understandable. (I'm from Norway)

Welcome to the forum. I had the EF24-105 f4L when i had a 5d. It was my favoutite zoom lens, fast to focus and excellent picture quality

below taken with a 1d mark 2 (your camera is likely better)

70-200mm f2.8

I'm not sure of the prices in Norway but Sigma OS edition - Canon IS (second hand as its out of production) - Canon IS MII (likely out of budget but the best there is). All would be good choices.

In short what you're asking is tricky, snowboarding is typically going to have you a good distance away from the action and the 70-200mm might even be too short for that; however it does tie in as a very good generalist lens for most subject areas. If you feel that you'd need more reach then you could consider a 300mm f4 L, 500mm f5.6 or the 100-400mm IS L. They don't have the same wide aperture as the 70-200mm, but they should be within budget new or second hand and will give you more reach. The primes will be more specific to your sports need whilst the zoom might be a better compromise if you want an all round lens for multiple varying subjects.

What Overread mentioned a 70-200 2.8 is the best lens you will ever own. I know that prices in Norway are probably much higher than most countries. I pent a few weeks there in 1994 and found that prices for everything were higher. You may be looking at having to save a little longer and put more money aside, but it would be well worth it.

I think you'd be fine with the 70-200mm f4. Considering most videos and photos I have seen have been during blue sky days. Night shots use flashes or under lights. Also as the day ends the lifts gets flat and makes on snow photos flats and hard to read.

Thank you for answering my question!
As imagemaker46 said, Norway is expensive! but I will look into the 24-105 F4L, and the 70-200 f2.8 and compare them!

Thanks!
