Good ultra wide lenses for full frame?

A friend of mine (very good pro wedding photographer) has tried several lenses. Part of his style is that he often shoots into the sun and uses the flare to his advantage. He really disliked the fair characteristics of the 17-40mm and even more the 16-35mm.

The one he likes best, is the EF-S 10-22mm...but of course, it's not meant for full frame...it doesn't have a big enough image circle, doesn't actually mount and it may interfere with the mirror.
So he 'hacked' his 10-22mm by taking off the rear mount and removing a spacer or something. It now mounts onto his APS-H and full frame cameras, giving a really, really wide view (albeit with heavy vignetting on the wide end). But (I think) he says it works great at around 15mm and up.
