Got my flash, photogenic dog aswell

My 270 ex speedlight came in. Didn't realize how small it was, I would have went with the next size up if i could do it again. But it will do for a hotshoe flash. At the same time, I'm realizing really good photos won't come until I can start using off-camera flash, lol.

Anways here are a couple of my cousin's dog China. Really awesome dog, even sits still for photos and makes funny gestures.

Heres a picture of my mother, I can't figure out whats wrong with it. If someone would point me in the right direction. Is it over saturated?

Not much to say...did you use yournew flash? It seems so in one image...

Really though they are just quickly taken snaps without much though to what the final product will be. Not much composition, busy background, static image, nothing much really. Have a read on what makes an image good. A good start is "Understanding Exposure" by bryan peterson. He talks about basics of photography
