Got to play this weekend

I belong to several groups of photographers in town, the most active of which is a friendly Facebook group of mostly amateurs, but a number of pros hang out as well and provide occasional help.

I decided to organize a little party and invite a bunch of photographers from the group and a bunch of models I know just to see what would happen. I got the owner of a local eclectic furniture store/warehouse to let us use her facility for the shoot. She's got tons of great antique furniture, artwork, and a cool collection of old props (old phones, masks, etc...).

The models all signed releases and will be given copies of at least 3 high-res photos without watermarks for their portfolio. I provided the food and drinks. Eight photographers, 5 models and 4 hours. It was a lot of fun. Can't wait to do the next one which I'm planning for June.

Lots more pics posted overnite in our Facebook group. It's real interesting to see all the different styles for many of the same shots (where we clustered together and shot the same model at the same time). Two of the photographers were using Film and one of them developed most of her stuff last night and has been posting her pics... Film is definitely not dead.

This is a great series. The processing work has created stronger photos. Models are doing a good job, better angles than the pics above.

I'm still pumped from yesterday's session... I called a friend this morning, the Director of the Topeka Zoo, and it looks like we'll have our next meet-n-greet there with a private tour that includes special access to non-public areas of the zoo. In addition to most of the models from yesterday's shoot, several of the photographers will be bringing their kids and again signing releases for all. Each photographer just has to agree to submit one high-res non-watermarked photo to a zoo charity event contest. It does not have to contain a model, but must include an animal from the zoo. I can't wait.

I did this recently too with a group of models and a Disney Villains Theme shoot it was lots of fun. Too bad I had to drive to Edmonton 2.5 hours away for it. I love seeing creative meets like this. TFS.

Are you related to the Dave Navarro from Janes Addiction?

Sort of... in the fact that I get email from hundreds of women every month who somehow think they found his secret email address. Most of it is very amusing.

However, in the literal sense, our family tree meets in Puerto Rico over a hundred years ago... So I think that makes us cousins of a sort. He's a nice young man, I've met him a couple of times, but I don't think either of us would consider the other actual family. At least not in the "hey, can I borrow a hundred grand, cuz?" kind of sense.

Actually, if anyone is in the Northeast Kansas area or willing to travel there, our next party will be on April 30th in the historic Jayhawk Theatre downtown Topeka. I'm bringing 10 to 15 models this time and we've got the entire theater (no restrictions on where we can go and shoot) for 6 hours.
