Grainy images.

First post so be gentle please.

I have been using my camera for about two years on and off but for the last couple of months i have really knuckled down and become addicted to taking images.

I usually shoot in Jpeg fine just because it's easier to load into Photoshop (yes i know RAW is the core)

I find a lot of my images come out grainy while others are really nice crisp and just what i expected out of the camera, why the difference in image quality please?

I suspect you're referring to digital noise. This is usually because either you're shooting at too high an ISO (Auto ISO?) or you're increasing exposure in an under-exposed image/area of the image.

Thanks for the quick response, yes i do play around to much with the iso selections trying to run before i can walk i suppose, i use one of those 'cheat sheets' for a reminder but a bit awkward walking around constantly referring to it lol. Just have to sit down and make mental notes on certain basic settings for day to day usage.

Set your max iso at a level that looks clean and then use manual, shutter priority, or aperture priority with auto iso.

So i read this as you are using the camera's screen (live view) and not the viewfinder would i be correct in my assumption?

Not necessarily. You make your setting in the menus but composing the image can be done in the viewfinder (diopter).
