yes having continuous tones is nice. Yes there is a lot of white in this shot. HOWEVER, having a white appear white, and having a black appear black is GOOD. Don't get cought up in thinking that you can't have a white, especially in shots where it means somthing else is exposed properlly. There is no dynamic range that will ever capture everything, even HDR. One of the most basic things tought is to have a white and black . . . and that will mean losing detail somewhere.


so take it easy on being so worried about lack of detail in an area, i think more importantly the contrast is too much in this shot.
