Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Each year I take a picture of the Grandkids as a Christmas gift. Other than some limb chopping, I'm pretty pleased with this. My personal photography goal is to get it right in camera and rely less on editing. This was SOOC and I'm pretty proud of how it came out (sharpened for web). CC always welcome!

Sweet kiddos! Here are my nitpicks:

1. The little guy's hand was cut at the fingers (which you already mentioned).
2. The cute little blonde on the left threw the composition off balance in a way that I can't intelligently explain. She seems to be 'diagonal' while the other two or 'vertical' if that makes any sense.
3. The pretty girl in the middle could use a little more light in her eyes.

Thanks Michael,

I wonder if I rotated the image a bit, if it would solve the balance issue, or make it not as noticeable.

I don't think rotation would help. I think a different crop might be a better solution. Consider this 8x10... Do you think it's an improvement? Disregard the fact that I cut off more fingertips... Quick edit... :)

I perfer the original. It looks like a natural reaction out of the little blondie. The 8x10 crop makes it appear as if she is just trying to sneak into the photo rather than with the original where it just looks like she finds comfort being close to her siblings. Just my feeling.

Ah, yes. The 8x10 crop might work better. I'll have to see if I can make it work with the original file without cropping more fingers. I think I cropped it too close in camera, I need to remember to take a step back when shooting.

After a second look and a minute to think, it might be the dead space on the right of the photo that throws me off more than anything else.

I feel it's the dead space also. I'll try to crop in more on the right, perhaps shift the crop to the left a little.

Thanks Joe, I think part of it is the dead space on the right. The girl on the left was leaning her head on her cousins shoulder and I thought it was the sweetest!!!

I would agree about the space to the right. You cropped much too closely on the left and on the bottom.

Just for fun, here's the same 8x10 with a little bit of brightness added to eyes of the young lady in the middle. :)

Thanks Michael! Other than adding some light to her eyes (oh and the crop), does everything else look good?

I'm thinking of adding a little bit of colour pop, but I'm not sure it's really necessary.

I can't really suggest any other touch-ups, but only because the photo you posted is low resolution. If I could zoom in and examine more closely, I could probably give a few more opinions.

It's worth mentioning, aside from the composition issues we've been discussing, you did a really nice job straight out of camera. The white balance and exposure seem really close to perfect to my eyes... I think others might say the white balance is on the cool side, but it's a matter of personal preference. I wonder about the focus, but again, it's hard to tell with the low resolution photo you posted.

Thanks! I'll just sit here and tell you that it's TOTALLY in focus and crisp and clear. ;) Sorry about the low-res image, I posted from my phone and it was the only one I had saved.

That's quite alright! You're awesome, and your grandkids are as cute as can be!
