Nice shot. I do believe that juveniles are brown for the first year or so. Whether that is the case here is hard to say without seeing the whole bird.

Nice shot! It could be a combination of a the nice low light being warm as well as being a yearling that make it look more brown. I like the reflection on the water of both the bird and the vegetation.
