I keep going back and forth on the crop, the angle and not getting the ears in focus as well.

I didn't realize they had tongues that looked like that though...

I would love to hear your thoughts.

This was shot with my D5300 and 18-300mm at 300mm, ISO 640 btw.

Screw the ears, dude, you got perfection in the eyes and an awesome, humanesque expression. Crop a little from the right and it can't get any better.

Its certainly a sharp shot and the focus is exactly where it should be in this. DOF is something we live with and in this shot, its just right for the result. The only thing that catches my eye a little, is the bright highlight on the right hand side. Still a fantastic shot as is IMO. So a little nit pick there is all. Beautiful subject and well taken.

All the best and man, that is darn sharp !! Love it.

Danny.

That's a great shot! I have a close up shot of a Barred Owl. But I didn't get as much detail out of the eyes as you have done in your shot.. Excellent...

I care less about the focus than I do the crop - it would be terrific if both ears had made it completely into the frame, and I agree with Danny about the one highlight that pulls the eye. Having said that - it really is all about the terrific expression, and the focus is crisp and your colors lovely. Fun capture! :)

Awesome!! I would not crop the right as thats the direction hes looking, so it makes it a comfortable frame. But I agree on the white spot, it does pull the eye. So awesome though!!

Agree with others, DANG that is sharp!
Looks like small/ large F. Stop ( still can't get the lingo) as the tongue is sharp but chest feathers are not. (Which is great )

Crazy, ain't it?! The larger the aperture (opening), the smaller the number (f/stop).
