Photos NOT OK to edit
This guy is at the Chattanooga Zoo. He is also in a horrible place to photograph, in a little cave in a tree behind a fence with very tight mesh. I had a tough time getting this shot, and then a tough time post-processing it.

I've been very pleased with that lens since I got it. It has limitations, all lenses do, but once I learned to work within them it has done an excellent job for me.

As to shooting proficiency, that is arguable ;)

Very, very nice. I'd ALMOST give my wing away if I could get something like that. I'm going to have to make it to the Nashville and Chattanooga zoos one of these days.
Is there an arboretum somewhere around there?

Thanks. It looks a lot better now than when I started working on it ;) It was lousy out of the camera.

The Nashville Zoo is a lot larger than the Chattanooga Zoo. They both have some different animals though. Some in Chattanooga that aren't in Nashville and vice versa.

There is an Arboretum in Chattanooga but not Nashville that I'm aware of. Nashville does have Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Radnor Lake but no true arboretum.

Beautiful bird.

BTW, these guys HATE me. I dunno why, but EVERY single great horned owl I have EVER been within 10' of glares at me and hisses at me. It's realy bizarre. We're talking about 6 different birds now.

I have that affect on big cats. I dunno why either. The Clouded Leopards and Cougars at the Nashville Zoo will stop what they are doing and stare at me every single time I walk up. Today at Chattanooga one of the Jaguars paced back and forth right against the glass the whole time I stood there. And then I got this look from a Snow Leopard:

I guess GHOs know a rabbit when they see one.

Good point! Change your avatar to a Great Horned Owl and then they will love you and rabbits will hate you ;)

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwow. Somehow I feel lucky to only be hated by big-eyed raptors.

hahahahahaha... but... but... my bunny has a lightsaber!!!!

It's a nice owl shot. Try cropping in tighter, from just left of the beak to past the ear on the right. With the left side out of focus it looks a little off, but I think filling the frame with the beak/eye/ear details would work really well.

Zoos are sometimes a real bugger to shoot in with all the fences and glass that gets in the way. In tight helps fight some of that.

On the pic... and I know you had some serious limitations... i really wish we could see his other eye JUST a little more. I mean all of it would be good, but where you have almost none of it, I think it hurts the shot quite a bit unfortunately. :(
