zOMG...just yesterday a TPF buddy and I hiked down and into a lovely waterfall. When we got there, there were a BUNCH of other photographers there, all "serious" types, with tripods and expensive cameras....Nikon D2x, Canon 5D-III, Nikon D800, Nikon D800, were the four I could clearly identify by their neck straps...one the way in I passed three shooters hiking out...so...the place is CRAWLING with landscape nuts...I set up and one older gentleman is a complete clod...bumping into me on the bridge over the creek, hitting my tripod with his tripod when he moved it, bumping into me, walking on the wooden bridge while me and his daughter were trying to do some slow-speed, long-tele work...so..this woman with a thick French accent shows up and asks, "Deeed anyone lose zeee meeemoreeee cardzzz?"
"Were they on a black and yellow necklace?" I asked? She did not seem to know the word "necklace". She looked at me quizzically. "Were they on a lanyard?" I asked, "a lanyard with smile faces?" I asked,making an "air necklace" around my neck, and making the smiley face expression with my lips. My memory card storage is a neck lanyard, with stupid smiley faces on it, in a black-and-yellow (NIKON colors!!!) color, with two small zippered SanDisk CF card storage mini-wallets clipped on.
"Yes,yes, lanyard! I hanged zeem on the van!" she said.
"On the van?" I asked?
"Yes, on zee van!" she said. I snatched up my tripod, zipped my vest pockets, and headed up the trail, double-time. On the heart-pounding hike out, all I could think of was somebody stealing my two memory card pouches, jammed with CF cards. When I got back to the parking area, I looked on all the antennas of each vehicle, thinking she hung them on a van's antenna. NO CARD WALLETS on a lanyard were to be seen, anywhere!! Damnit!!! I thought. Huffing, out of breath, and disappointed, I approached two young people who were sitting in a car, and asked if they had seen a black and yellow lanyard with two tiny wallets on it.....thinking that they might have stolen it...
"Oh, yeah, it's hanging over there on that log fence!" the woman said.
