hdr first attempt

i know this photo isnt exciting....or even good...but i just want to view how the levels change when merging to hdr with photoshop, something just doesnt seem right

do i need to be shooting in raw format for the picture to come out better...
please ...any help or advice would be much appreciated
i think part of the problem is the 50 mm lens i used to shoot this photo...i should have used my 28-105 i think...

Did you use +-2 exposure stops?

sorry to say but that dosent look like a HDR to me. When u run them through photoshop play with that histogram and also read some tutorials on converting back to 16 bit

i used -2 0 +2 bracketing in aperture priority mode
i did not convert it back to 16 bit though...when i merged it...i could only get the file to save as jpg if i used 8 bit
