Head and shoulders

On another thread it was pointed out to me that I rarely show head and shoulders shots or anything other than full body shots. It was a fair point and I promised to show some of the few head and shoulders shots I have. Five are below. In future shoots I'll keep that in mind and aim to correct it.

C&C is always welcome (I know five is a bit too many). Comments and suggestions on my logo are also welcome - I seem to lose creativity when I work on that. Does the 40% fade make it unobtrusive enough?

The logo's fine. I didn't even notice until I read that part of you post.

These are great! I look forward to your upcomming series, this will give good variety. Only nitpicky thing I can come up with is the photo of the girl with the fan. Right now, it's kind of in-between mysterious and interesting headshot. Maybe show her whole chin (the bit of the neck to the left gives it less "floating head effect") or have the fan higher to show just her eyes? Again, totally nit-picking. These are all great!

Nit pick all you want, Jowens! It seems some of the stuff I've picked up here from nitpickers must have stuck.

I had this other one where the chin is fully visible but the expression isn't as good.

Very good. The only thing that I could add would be a question about #2's hand. It seems a little ackward to me. I refer to something I heard from Bambi Cantrell about not showing the back of a womens hand. I'm not sure if turning the hand over would have been the answer but it catches my attention away from her face and eyes (which are beautiful)

Thank you Ronlane; I noticed the hand myself after I'd posted it, you're right and I've heard the same advice since that series was shot earlier last year (I also noticed that it looks a bit like she's giving me the finger! :lmao. From my observations you can sometimes get away with it when shooting younger women but even so you have to be careful.

I'm hoping to shoot my wife tomorrow (pun intended), as she's "a lady of a certain age" I'll keep this tip in mind.

Careful about shooting the wife, she might give you the finger. :lmao:

LOVE that one. Her expressions not bad, but I agree that it was better in the other.

At the ripe old age of 23, even I can appreciate that. I had some photos taken as part of my SO's 30th yesterday, and my hands look SO old.

These are okay but they are not really head and shoulder portraits. You need to zoom in tighter.

No, Tyler, :lmao: but like many here you do have a reputation for being honest in your assessments ... Which is good. It makes compliments meaningful and all the mistakes one has had gently pointed out (and learned from) worthwhile. :thumbup:
