Hi everyone

this is my first post, i have been toying with the idea of getting a camera for a few months, first checking out cheap compacts, then thinking a bridge would be better before 'accidently' asking to play with a dslr in the shop, hooked instantly!
purchased a canon 1100D, obv its the cheaper end of dslrs but i love it. Mainly i want it for portrait shots, nice 1's of my little girl, nieces, newphews etc, but if i see a nice landscape shot i wouldnt hestitate
would anyone please give feedback? if they are rubbish please say i wont be offended, thanks to all

The first would look better IMO if she was looking at the camera and if you were down a little lower. The black white conversion needs a little work.

The second one isn't pleasing to the eye with all the blur. Without it I think it would be cute.

Agree with the post above. I like the 1st. Just bring the camera down a little more. The 2nd would be a better shot if the lines on the sheets were used as leading lines. And if the shot was soft. Not blurry. I'm new to this site so maybe my .02 doesn't mean anything but I'd thought I'd share. All and all, I like your vision, and I think you should keep shooting.

They're your images. If you like them, that's what counts. There's lot of technical and compositional advice that can be provided, but I would suggest spending some time reading first. Read your camera's manual front to back, and then read it again. Read through the excellent tutorials here, and then search the 'net for terms such as "Photographic composition", "Rule of thirds", and "Golden mean".

cheers, the 2nd pic is blurred as its in my bedroom and the red you see above her neck is a punchbag, so i cropped what i could and put a blur effect on to disfigure the punchbag really, the black and white conversion in the first pic is just photoshops standard black and white, kind of learning both as i go along, thanks again
