I am Chip located in NE Tennessee USA. I am an aspiring photographer. I have always wanted to go pro, but life and cost have always been, and still are a factor. I learned the fundamentals of photography in high school, on a Pentax K 1000 35mm film camera. But that was 20+ years ago. Looking to start out doing some Stock with an older DSLR (Canon 7204...EOS Rebel.) Using Social Media, YouTube, Patron, etc to raise money to buy a Sony a7rIII, or a Nikon D850. Alas by the time I raise the money both will probably be obsolete.

You don't need a fancy camera to go pro.

I don't know in witch direction you want to go, but my advice would be to buy a decent, used camera and spend the rest of your money on lenses, lights, travels, education or even marketing.

But then again, I would probably go for a nice camera myself, even when I know it's not where the money is best spent.

Welcome, ChipI!
Using Social Media, YouTube, Patron, etc to raise money..
You can do that? Wow! I had no idea!

Why would it take a long time? How do you get money now?

I live in a rural area the cost of living is low therefore the jobs don't pay crap. My good paying commercial printing job went to China and Mexico a few years back. I have a degree in ElectroMechanical Technology but the manufacturing sector here is all but gone. Right now I make enough to pay the bills, and a little extra sometimes, by working as a substitute high school teacher. Certainly not enough extra to buy the equipment I am looking at.

Welcome Chip. I grew up in south central Kentucky on the Tennessee border, so I know about the pay/cost of living thing you mentioned. I also know you have much scenic beauty around you once you decide your route. Looking forward to see what you share with us.

Welcome aboard and good luck in your endeavors.
