Hi everyone. I've been lurking for the last few days, so I figured it was about time I introduced myself.
I'm a beginner photographer and just recently purchased my first DSLR. After much (MUCH) research and reading these forums, I decided on the Canon T4i. I got the 18-55mm IS kit lens with it and then purchased the 55-250mm IS zoom lens.
While I'm new to DSLR's, my dad used to do a bit of amateur photography when I was younger (I'm 38 now), so I've been exposed to it somewhat in the past. Unfortunately, I never picked up the more technical side of things, so I'm in the process of trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can about exposure, ISO, composition, etc.
At this point, most of my photography will probably be nature scenes and animals. While I'm not a shy person, I'm not comfortable enough yet to try street photography (at least where it involves people, those being complete strangers). I do love architecture, so I'm sure I'll be shooting street scenes/architecture photos...just not with people in them...LOL.
On one hand, I feel I'm lucky to live where I do. While we may not have wonderful beaches ripe for gorgeous sunsets or towering mountains with snow capped peaks, I live in the middle of horse country. In fact where I live, Lexington, is called "The Horse Capital of the World". We have miles and miles of rolling horse farms, complete with those iconic white fences and beautiful horse barns that cost more than 10 average houses put together. I'm sure this is where I'll get my chops, shooting horse scenes and scenery.
Another subject that I'm sure I'll broach at some point is shooting motorcycles. I ride a 2009 Yamaha FZ1 and I love the sport bike community. I've met so many great friends through riding and it would be great to shoot some of the times that we have while out on the twisties. We aren't what you're probably thinking of...what some people refer to as "squids". We all wear full protective gear (no jeans or tennis shoes allowed...we're snobby like that!) We like to pass on the gospel of responsible, safe riding. We respect others on the road. But that's enough about that!
Anywho, I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. This seems like a wonderful place with lots of great, helpful people and I'm glad to be a part of it! Thank you ahead of time for all the help I'm sure I'll need!
