Hello,

I am new to photography and found this site whilst searching for forum where I might get some help in using my cameras and managing to take decent photographs of my many animals to put on my own website.

I started off with a little digital camera 3-4 years ago. I bought a sony dsc h-5 and still have not managed to get the help to use it to it's full potential.
I have recently bought a nikon D5000 with 18mm-55mm lens, the kit, so really need help in using this camera properly.
I'm going to join a local photography club but as I work evenings this has proved difficult upto press as they are all held in the evening!

I mainly take pictures of rodents as that is what I breed and show. Trying to get none blurry photo's is proving difficult as I don't know how to use the functions on either camera.
I'd really love to be able to get good sharp photographs of all my pets and probably of the grandkids as well. Along with some landscapes when I go out and about!

Welcome, look around, lots of information on here.

As for focus might want to start your education with propper exposure techniques first. You camera should be doing a fine job in auto mode for most situations though. But its good to learn how to work the camera to know what to do when the automatic modes are not working propperly due to one reason or a combination of reasons. Even though you current issue is with getting good focus. Not having propper exposure settings can cause focus problems (mainly too slow a shutter speed).
