Does anyone have a Canon HD video camera and is willing to decipher the models for me?
I'm just starting to explore getting a dedicated video camera, primarily for family stuff, kids football games, holidays, etc. Figured I'd start with Canon since I'm a happy Canon DSLR customer already. But when it comes to video cameras I'm pretty clueless; I don't know what I don't know and I don't know what features I need to be looking at. I'm also surprised at how many models there, there's a ton of Canon video cameras on Amazon for under $1000.
I guess my price range is between $300 - $700 but really I have no idea what that will get me, I just know that's the general range I'm comfortable with. A photog buddy of mine video's some of his shoots and he uses a Canon Vixia, not sure of the exact one, but I know he's been really happy with it. But again, I'm confused by the model numbers, I'm seeing HF Mxxx, HF Mxx, HF Rxxx, HF Rxx, etc. He also has an external stabilizing handle that looks really valuable to have.
So...can anyone take a stab at helping me understand the differences between Canon's video cameras?
