HELP!!! composition/crop issues

The composition of this pretty much sucks. I am kicking myself for cutting off his fingers. Can anyone come up with a creative way to improve the composition? Thanks!!

kids are great aren't they!!

Unfortunately, other than getting a really good artist to paint the left side of the image I think we have seen the best it can get. With the look on his face that extra bit that was lost would really help the composition alot. It would tell the rest / whole story and not leave us feeling like something was missing.
