help! Matrix Array cameras & their differences

I have been asked to do some research on Array Cameras and their specs. Here is what I'm wondering: what are the differences between a three-shot, single matrix array camera and a single-shot, single-matrix array camera? Which one would be better suited for a still-life and which would be better for moving subject matter?
