I leave for paris on the 22nd and I plan to spend as much time as possible taking pictures, but I'm having some trouble making sure I have everything to suit my needs. I am already taking with me a canon 70-200 2.8, a canon 100mm macro, and a s95. I recently replaced my kit 55-250 with the 70-200 2.8 and now i need a replacement for my 18-55. My first impression was to go with the canon 17-40, but now i am second guessing it. I am now seriously considering the 24-105. Another thing I wanted to take into consideration was getting a fast 50 for street photography while i was there. Here are a few questions I have to hope to clear things up for me.

1) One of the reasons I was leaning towards the 17-40 at first was because it was decently wide. I figured a wide angle lens would be helpful because there are a lot of opportunities for good cityscapes. Would 24mm be wide enough for most of those applications?

2) Since the s95 has a maximum aperture of f/2 it does make a decent street shooter, but how would that compare to the 50mm 1.8? ( I would like to get the sigma 1.4, but thats not in my budget at the moment)

3) How is the image quality between the 24-105 and the 17-40?

PS. Im using a t1i

Any plans of migrating to a full frame body in the near future? If yes, the 17-40 would be the best wide angle glass for you. I use a 10-22 ultra wide lens for my 50D, also a cropped body. The 24-70 or 24-105 are great walk around lens, not wide for a cropped body but being "L", no doubt they are built to give sharp results. Between the two, the 24-70 is the better choice to complement your 70-200 and IQ is tops.

Bring along some GND, ND, CPL, and UV filters on that trip. Here's a tip for flyers like you. Get a cheap collapsible rubber hood for the lens you'll have on when you are on the plane. You can stick the hood on the window when you shoot the clouds or the wings of the plane. You eliminate the glare coming from the glass window. I do this also when shooting fish in an aquarium.

Unfortunately I don't have any plans on switching to s full frame in the near future because i do a lot of wildlife and bird photography back home. I ruled out the the 24-70 2.8 because the lack of is. I figured I need at least one lens with IS and it does come in handy for video. Also, I do plan on buying an array of filters before i leave.

Any one else have some input?
