Help please

My wife and i just bought a tear old olympus e-600 , im wanting to use it to take pictures on hunting trips, the camera makes a loud noise when a picture is taken, my question is, is this mechanical noise that cannot be removed? Or can i actually stop this sound. Im afraid its too loud for up close wildlife , we are very ignorant about cameras and any help would be great

I'm assuming that you're referring to the shutter mechanism/mirror. Unfortunately, this is a normal, necessary mechanical function and there's nothing you can do about this except to mask it. You can buy or build a quiet box (essentially an insulated wood/metal/plastic shell into which you place the camera to reduce the noise), but that can make using it more difficult.

Ya that must be the noise, i guess i just assumed since my last camera didnt make noise this wouldnt either

I wonder if in Live View, if it's quieter??? Not sure. A good deal of the sound could be the mirror going upward.

Derrel, what and how do i get to "live view"

Ive noticed if i take the lcd screen and flip it around as to where you can only look through eye peice it only makes one click rather than 2
