HELP WITH BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS!!

Need some help on how to convert color photos to black and white.I am currently using this software PhotImpact XL and Microsoft Picture It- Photo Standard 9.Any ideas on how I can improve the photo when printing, My black and white comes out looking bluish of some sort...

If the photo comes out wrong when printing but looks right on the screen then there's a missmatch between the colour profile of the screen and the printer. I can not help you further here, but I believe your technique for conversion may be correct and your software may need adjusting. But I can't tell that for certain.

Possible problems that come to mind.

mismatch of color profile
printer itself might not be able to reproduce a true black
Software itself might not be doing the job correctly (sorry not familiar with the software you are using)
