Help with filters, please...

What type of filters will help me shoot in extremely bright sunlight? Also, when shooting objects in or on the water, what can help reduce the glare on the water's surface?

Neutral Density filters and Circular polarizing filters are first two I ever bought. Google those.

A circular polarizer (CPOL) is your go-to filter for reducing reflections on non-metallic surfaces, enhancing contrast and saturation in a scene, etc. For bright light, neutral density filters (ND) will reduce the amount of light coming through the lens without affecting the colour of the image (hence "neutral"). Filters aren't cheap however. A bad filter is worse than none at all; good filters are Heliopan, Lee, Singh-Ray and B+W, decent filters are Hoya and Tiffen (in their multi-coated versions). Buy the filters to fit the largest lens you have and then use reducing rings to mount them on other lenses.

Thank you both! I am trying to re-shoot some photos that I posted a few days back. Everyone was saying that they were way to bright and that the brightness was making the whole shot look blue. After adjusting the white balance, I am still having the same troubles. Thanks again for your help!

Unless you are changing your exposure settings, they'll be just as bright as they always were, but blurry to boot.
