Got camera to take photos of my son playing football all going well until it rained.
Please can anybody tell me how to stop the lens fogging up?

Once the lens' front element acclimates to the temperature outside, it shouldn't fog up. But there are anti-fog sprays you can apply to it. Available in the optical department and WalMart.

The temperature change is the problem so you want to get the camera and the lens into the outside temperature sooner. Take the camera and put it in the car or out on the porch a few hours before you're going to use it and that should do it.

If the temperature of any surface drops below the "dew point" then moisture will condense on that surface. If you keep those surfaces warm, then they won't dew up.

The problem with rain is... it rains when the air is saturated and the temps drop below the "dew point" - so that's going to be a challenge. If your long lens has a lens hood -- use it. The hood will actually help keep dew from settling on the surfaces.

When you take a cold glass out of the freezer to have a beer, the glass attracts moisture to frost up on it BECAUSE the glass is COLDER than the surrounding air and is also colder than the dew point. If the glass is WARMER then it will never fog up. Keeping your lenses in a warm place will help.

RainX makes an anti-fogging agent as well. Personally I just wipe it off till it stops fogging. Also many times your view finders eyepiece is the culprit when you see the lens is not fogging.
