I know that when uploading files to Facebook they need to be 720 on the longest end---My images that are vertical are crystal clear and look great--but no matter what I do I cannot get my horizontal pictures to look clear when I upload them to facebook---any suggestions??

Perhaps if you tell us what you are doing to prepare your photos for Facebook, someone might be able to help. What program are you using, how big are the originals, etc. I uploaded about 15 to my Facebook account this afternoon, and they look fine both horizontal and vertical.

I upload full-res shots to Facebook with no problems, but I just use that as a preview for my Flickr.
