Herring gull in flight at eye level

Took his last summer at Dungeness Beach, Kent,UK
I was up on a shingle bank and was lucky enough to catch this at eye level

I think it's a very nice shot, but somehow the oof wing at this angle keeps drawing my attention. It's right in my face. Nice capture though.

I think I would agree with JacaRanda's comment. The OOF wing is just "right in your face" and is the first thing my eye went to after its eye.

What were your settings for the shot? The exposure seems about right, you just need a great DOF.

I like it as it is, it was a very lucky moment and you captured it well.
My first impression was the eye, and I think if that happens in the viewer, then you achieved your goal.
OOF wing might come next, but it never bothered me, as I didn't necessarily expect it to be in focus, too.

Settings below:

Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 400 mm
ISO Speed 200

I would not want to have lowered the shutter speed, but could comfortably have closed the aperture a couple of stops at the expense of higher ISO

I agree this is certainly not perfect technically, but I quite like the effect of the OOF wing, being as it is mirrored either side of the neck, which draws my attention to the sharper focus on the eye and beak
