If he is working on car photography, there is no reason to get a new subject. Besides, he has a great looking car at his disposal and it wouldn't make sense to use other cars (that dont belong to him).

hehe, im sorry that im borin ya bro. wednesday i have a group of friends and there will be pictures from other cars as well. i am getting into photography mainly for the purpose of cars... then once i get good at them i will move onto different things. but for now i want to get very good at cars, since its hard finding a real photographer in a car club

haha sorry that came out a little wrong. Its just when I first got into photography (not to long ago) I experimented with different styles and it helped me improve my all around skill and knowledge of photography. Just try shooting other thing on the side as well.

well hi guys, right now im in anchorage alaska. When i was much younger i took a course in photography which i failed... lol. It just did not interest me in the least. However now 10 years later at 24 i find myself extremely interested in it... like its something that just makes me want to wake up early in the morning and stay out until late at night doing. I found the digital camera that i had (a 5.0 megapixel canon pocket camera) to be unsatisfying and thus it lead me to getting the canon rebel xti. I unfortunately do not know enough about the different settings and such to do a whole lot. however i have taken a picture and i was wondering from your point of views, what should be done to make the next one i take better.

IMO as a photographer you should first learn how to play with light. Photography depends on light! So you need to build an understanding of light. What it is, how it behaves at certain angles and how you should use them to get better quality photographs. Can you tell me what's the problem with your photo where you had three cars lined up?

If you tell me that, I'll give you more info about light, free of cost!

i think my problem is that (please dont get angry with me if im wrong) that i had my camera set on automatic and it adjusted itself to the sun that was coming into the camera

You're exactly right the camera found the light source and exposed for it but in return underexposed the cars.. Now tell us how do you fix it?

set it to manual, and manually adjust it? i did a fair amount of reading and if your problem is getting sun into the lens it said that a boot over the lens would help so that you dont catch sunlight. but i dont know if that would help since the sun is directly in my picture. would it?

You are right, a lens hood (boot) will help with your outdoor shots...but it won't help much if the sun is directly in the shot.

You are also right that the settings from the camera, in automatic, are not idea because you underexposed the cars. You don't necessarily have to put the camera into manual mode...you can use any mode...but the trick is to know when to change the settings away from what the camera (meter) is recommending. You can do this by using manual mode or by using EC (exposure compensation). Looking at your camera, you will see a scale...the 'needle' is always centered when in any of the auto modes. That's the meter reading. You will learn to adjust the settings (EC or manual mode) so that the needle is off the centre of the scale.

Keep in mind that you still may not get the shot that you want. In your shot, for example, you can't expose for the cars without blowing out the sun & sky. If you expose for the sky, your cars are too dark. You have to look at your scene, decide what is most important and then expose for that. This is especially important for digital cameras (or slide film) because the exposure latitude isn't very wide.

There are ways to get a wider range of tones (often called HDR, high dynamic range) but you can get into that later.

My brother only drives German cars, he loves 'em. Currently scratching his Mercedes itch, he's taken a liking to Audis, probably his next purchase. Oh yeah, and he loves German cameras, currently a Leica M8 owner.

Ya know what I've always wondered? Germany should have spacecraft. They're the world's best engineers. I know they're contributing to the International Space Station but I certainly would like to see a German space shuttle.

Oh, nothing special, I am actually not that car crazy (for being a Germany male) .. I drive an Audi A3, in a colour called Lavagrey .... almost black, with a funny reflective effect when the sun shines on it.
