Last October 2015, I bought myself a Canon Rebel T6i, I took some beginner classes to learn a few things but I'm a complete rookie with big goals. Hope to get some guidance from this forum and learn what to do next. Thanks for letting me join! My name is Kathy :)

Welcome! I've learned a lot from the other posters on here. Don't be afraid to post some photos and get some feedback!

Welcome and Merry Meet Kathy! I haven't been on the forum long, but you will definitely learn a massive amount from all the people here. I haven't posted anything recently due to moving cross country, but they have been helpful from what I have posted.

Welcome to the forums Kathy. I took up photography as a hobby a few years ago myself, it's amazing how much there is to learn. Best advice I can give is to find what works best for you, and stick with it.

Thank you for the welcome responses, I just drove to the two colleges in this area today to see if there were any photography courses I could take at them, nothing at either, Confederation College in Fort Frances and Rainy River Community College in International Falls. Both suggested I take an online course. Any recommendations? I want to learn wedding photography for the most part. I'll search the forum as well for advice on this, sure it's most likely on here.

Just found a link to this online Wedding photography course on the forum, anyone know if it's good? Thanks!

Welcome to TPF.

Not sure where you are with your skills so I'll kind of give a basic overview of how I would approach your situation.

1st. Learn as much as I could on the basics of photography. Exposure triangle composition etc.

2nd Get out and shoot.

3rd Post up a photo or two for a detailed critique so I could lear where to improve.

4th Get out and shoot.

5th Continue to explore topics such as lighting (natural vs strobe)

6th Get out and shoot

7th Once my photography was good enough, look for a mentor. (Here or near home)

8th Get out and shoot. Seeing a recurring theme?

9th Learn the business side of photography.

10th Get out and shoot and maybe at this point I may feel confident that I have the skills to make it.

I know some of this is obvious and you may well be beyond step 1 but the best education needs a plan. Without it you're just learning random things.

Best of luck. Stick around. Would be nice to see the progress.

Welcome. Another avenue is to join a local photography club. You might meet someone there who is willing to mentor you. I did just that. Unfortunately, the mentor was retired and relocated to AZ.

Okay thank you, I'll post some pics that I've taken so far for some feedback and go from there!

Welcome Kathy. Okay, so which border town are you from? Are you Canadian or American?

Hi Gary, I'm from Fort Frances, Ontario now. Just actually moved here July 1 from out west, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I'm Canadian
