high mileage car, any record???

best we've seen is a Toyota Camry with 500000km on it.

I'd believe it..... I'm sure my father's Camry could reach that if he wasn't such a hard driver. Unfortunately, the later Camry's didn't hold up to the quality of the earlier models.

One Jeep I had (don't know why I ever sold it...) had about 208,000 on it. Ran great too, it just needed a quart of oil with every fill-up.

1988 -> 1983 Ford Escort, blew it up at 49,000 miles
1990 -> 1985 Ford Escort, blew the transmission at 86,000 miles
1993 -> 1992 Geo Storm, bought new in 1993 and sold with 60,000 miles in 1995. A complete waste of money.
1995 -> 1989 Toyota Pickup, wrecked at 139,000 miles. It drove like it had just come off the new car lot. Bought for $6995, 4 wheeled extremely heavily, 2 days before I wrecked, it was completely covered in thick mud. Insurance gave me $8500 for it because of how clean it was (~$1800 over excellent condition book value.)

At this point, I matured and didn't drive the vehicles nearly as hard as I had been.

1996 -> 1994 Toyota 4Runner SR5, Sold at 64,000 miles 6 months later because I couldnt' afford the payment with getting married. Still drove like new.

1996 -> 1988 Toyota 4Runner, my longest ownership. 105-189,000 miles. Never put a dime into it except for brakes and a new clutch. I still heavily 4 wheeled for part of the ownership. Sold in 2002 and I still see it out on the road up north from me.

1998 -> 1996 Nissan Altima, currently 159.000 miles. Still own it. Bought it for the wife after we were married a year. I put a new distributer in it to the tune of $400 since I bought it. That's all I've done except for brake replacement. I took it over from the wife when I bought her a brand new Mazda, see below.

2002 -> 1999 Toyota Tacoma, 91,000 miles and I found the passenger frame rails completely rusted out. Unloaded it to buy the wife a new Mazda so she could have 4wd in the northern Pennsylvania snow. Now a year after I unloaded it, Toyota puts out a recall that they are purchasing back all Tacomas that have the frame rust problem for 1.5 times the excellent condition value. I bought it for $12,500 and after 3 years of driving it, would have recieved $13,800 from Toyota if I still had it.

2007 -> 2006 Mazda Tribute S, currently 15,000 miles. Bought as a leftover / demonstration car with 900 miles on it. $29,900 sticker and fully loaded with everything except leather. Paid $17,900 for it as a brand new car. Suggested retail value currently if bought used at a car dealer is $18,345. Bought mine new a year and a half ago for $445 less than that.

We sold my dads 87 honda accord that had 200,011 miles on it for 1500 bucks and bought a 2001 honda accord. I've got 88,000 on it right now, but a new tranny at 60,000 due to some sleezy mechanics intentionally breaking the old one. Luckily we got the new one free.

damn that is rediculuous with the mechanic trying to break a transmission.

My father-in-law commutes about 250km (155 miles) 5 days a week. So his vehicles really rack up the klicks. He also changes the oil on a strict schedule and does all the other maintenance as well. They have a Mazda Protege and I think the odometer is at something like 600,000+ km....and it still works great. The only major repair it ever needed was a new intake gasket.

That's the trick - change your oil every 3,000 miles and the only things that will go will be the gaskets. I had a Suzuki Alto FX and the manufacturer recommended changing the oil every 6,000 miles. It was so putrid after 5,000 that I took to changing at 4,000. I reckon all the previous owners had changed at 6k which probably hastened its demise.

You should see his 'oil change scribbler'. It's page after page after page of the dates that he has changed the oil of his various vehicles.

He just retired his 'camping' truck...it's a 1990 Ford with only 130,000 km....and bought a new Dodge with a Cummins Turbo Diesel...it will probably last him forever.

you know, I have a couple of my uncles who really like to push the limit of their oil and so far, I can't say that they are wrong. The Camry that has 165,000 on it get the oil change every 7-8000 miles on it. Nothing has been wrong with the engine at all. The same guy has a BMW with the same maintenance schedule and that car last it until 250,000 miles. Another uncle has a Corrolla and it doesn't get its oil change unitl 12-15,000 miles, granted, he us Mobil 1 sythetic oil, 12-15,000 miles over a period of a year seemed to be quite long to me and yet the Corrolla have like 145,000 miles on it. I probably stick to the 3000 miles routine.

Although it was technically only half of a car, since most of it had rusted away, I sold my car with 247,000 miles on it (400,000 kilometers). It was a 1987 Acura (Honda) Integra. I bought it for 600 bucks, drove it for 50,000 miles and sold it for 300 bucks 3 years later. I figured it out to be 8 dollars a month...

My dad had a 1980s Toyota truck fetish or something, so we at one point had 3 Toyota 4x4s. Their combined mileage was 625,000 miles...

A good friend of mine has an 87 Chevy astro van that has rolled over 4 times! Same 4.3 v6. It's now just something to throw his quad in the back of and drive, but it still runs.

A guy I know has a 1978 Chevy LUV Diesel with about a half a million miles on it. But diesels don't count. Its an unfair advantage.

My 1995 BMW 530i has just under 150,000. My brother's '92 525i just hit the 200,000 mark and I think my mom bought her '87 325e a few months ago for $1750 and it had over 200,000 miles on it.
