Histogram/Curves Help

Does anyone have a good tutorial or advice on how to read Histograms and work with Curves?

All I know of Histograms is that a spike in the right means I'm overexposed and the left represents the dark. That's about it.

I want to start learning about post production and how to make my pictures pop afterwards. Sw1tchFX has really inspired me to learn all about this so any help is appreciated.
