I meant that if your lenses have a plastic mount then they are usually cheaper and lighter in which case picking it up by the body instead of the lens would be preferred since the plastic mount is a weak point, correct?

It's irrelevant.

If the plastic mount is going to fail, it will fail if either piece is picked up, as the other piece will still be torquing on the mount.

Why not pick it up at the juncture, just as almost everybody else does?

The whole idea of never touching the lens is ridiculous.
