Homeless in NYC

Hello.
My name is David and I am new to the forum. I have been taking photos for a number of years and am looking forward to expanding my skills. Anxious to get comments and tips and see all the great talent on the forum.

This photo was taken while walking down Fifth Avenue and focusing on this man sitting on the steps. There were people everywhere, walking between me and the subject. Only after looking at the shots, I saw this image that I think captures how the rushing crowd easily passed the man in need.

I'll tell you what I like and what I don't like.
I like his expression and the blurred movement of the guy close to you.

I don't like the crop and/or the focal lenght used. Were you using a tele?
It gives me the sensation of eye contact with him, and that I like. It seems a "only me and you share this moment" and that's ok. What I don't ike it seem stolen, there's a big gap between me and him, feeling get compressed as I wasn't there. I don't know. It gives me the sensation I'm not there.

Which focal lenght did you use?

I'm not reading your message. He's clearly looking at you taking picture of him. That has nothing to do with the crowd.

Nice message, not so good execution. Think harder and try again... and you might think a bit deeply about the way you want to shoot homeless people. Don't do anything that you wouldn't like to be done to you.
