Horizonal Portrait and crop?

I cropped out her hands because of total inexperience... I am making a serious effort to NOT crop out body parts. I think I am generally so focused on eyes and expression that I forget to make sure I have the hands...definitely something I am working on. And it doesn't matter who your comments are directed toward, I am soaking it all in

I shoot mostly with a 50mm lens and am typically so close.. I need to back up some and get the whole shot. Thank you all... and I am starting to get the idea of when landscape portrait are important.

FWIW: It's important to know the "rules". Even more important to know when you can/need to break them.

Since we're all about learning here, "cropping" refers to removing the outer parts of an existing image in order to alter the composition ex post facto. Therefore, if you believe cropping off someone's hands was a mistake, then you should be able to go back to the original image file that includes the hands. However, I think you are saying that you excluded the hands from the frame when the image was originally captured, in which case taking the picture over again is the only recourse.
