Horse doing horse things

I don't have the 55-300 but I have the 55-200 and at the long end wide open leaves a lot to be desired. I have to be at around f8 for it to sharpen up. I think the issue is the fact that you're wide open on that lens at that focal length.
 
Ahh it just looked a touch soft overall which with the focal length and shutter speed made sense to me as handshake blur rendering it quite even - though it could indeed be the sensor performance and resolution of lens+sensor.

I think you are both right and its a culmination of both factors. I also had VR on.
 
It could also be that the horse just isn't particularly sharp in real life. A 240p horse living in our 4320p world, sent here from a lesser dimension to distract us from something just a little out of frame on the left side.
 
That would explain so much.

It's not me, I just hired this model off modelmayhem and she never told me she was low-res. The eagle's just low resolution! I knew when I walked in that the baby was low res, but what are you gonna do?
