What's new

Hot friend :)

I couldn't get the trees blurred more because I needed my flashes for fill flash and my max sync speed is 180 :(That meant the I needed to make my aperture smaller! I tried to do it in post but it just looked fake so I cropped it as much as I could. I assure everyone that her top fit her perfectly, she is the manager of the place she got it at :)

Thank you everyone for the comments and critique, it is much appreciated!

A light monolight and a AB VML velcroed, bungeed, or otherwise strapped to said light monolight can make a very good single light travel companion. One of those 600w/s Adorama Flashpoints is $300. So for about $500, you can have a good travel companion.

Maybe I should finish my post.

As Schwetty mentioned, an ND filter will help. I use a 6 stop with a 1200w/s pack. I wouldn't go any more than that as it's hard enough to focus with the 6 stop. That will let you shoot wide open. A 6 and a 3 woul make a good set of ND's for outdoor work.

And the reflection shot - the reflection is terrible. It looks like an old wrinkly hag. Try to wait until the water is as still as possible. I know that might not be possible if you're getting wake or the tide, but do what you can.

They look flat.... b/n the lighting and optics it feels more of a snapshot vs intended portrait.
Definitely play w/ lighting a bit more (if possible) and optics. Add some contrast besides desaturation, maybe a bit of brightness as well? Play around.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice :)

I think if I added anymore brightness it will be over exposed but I'll give it a whirl. Also I have no clue what b/n means or what you mean by optics.

b/n - between.
For optics (as you said to blur out the trees). Village Idiot in his post explained more about that.
Depending how much brightness and contrast you're adding - clipping those highlights can add to an image.

Gotcha! Thanks a lot :)

I have filters, in my camera bag I didn't even think to use them...

I have some good ideas for next time!!

I would crop #1 just above the elbow, her belly does nothing for the pic. My opinion.

I disagree, it says to me "I've been doing crunches" and the fact that it is just slightly off to the bottom right corner says "NO BIG DEAL".

I disagree. Pespsi is better than Coke.

Coke>>>Pepsi, not even a fair contest.

Tig biddies, too-small bikini tops, too-loose bikini tops, water, long hair and a pretty face, Coke, Pepsi, Jack, Johnny, Patron, it's allllllllll good.

I think this is a very good set. I like the tilt in the first photo, but I do think that the tilt in the 3rd is a little to much, at least for my taste. Having her hair draped across her shoulder that way also makes the photo feel like it is even more tilted than it really is.

I do like the crop in the last one, but it might just be cropped a little to much on the left. There is hardly any space between her arm and the edge of the photo.

I just now saw this thread and didn't scour each and every comment but I agree with her on #2 ... as I was panning down hoping for more transparency in the water, I was turned off by the reflection - made her look like she had bags under her eyes and reminded me of an old Star Trek episode of the salt monster... Which isn't fair, because she's totally hot when she's not all distorted ;) Anyway, nice pics even if I was too distracted to critique.

I love the salt monster episode!!!

Not a fan of the reflection in #2. I would have cropped closer, or moved lower to the water level. With regards to Cow's comment about the DOF, I think your DOF works since its in B&W, but if it were in color I would agree, it needs to be shallower. Overall I think #1 is my favorite. Nice shots!

She certainly is a beautiful woman. I like the 1st and 4th shots best. There's just not enough contrast to them to my eye - that may just be my poor laptop screen, however. The 2nd one almost comes off as an art shot where you're trying to show two different aspects of the same person - the reflection is that bad. The salt monster reference is pretty accurate. I don't think the trees in the 4th are that distracting at all - with better contrast I think they really help show the setting. To my thought there's no point in doing a shoot - even portrait specific - in such a nice setting if you aren't going to show it in the shots a little. Her face is beautiful in the 3rd shot but I agree that it's way too tilted. Nice shots as far as posing - certainly better work than I'd do.

That's it, I'm moving to Canada eh
