I'm not turned off by the effect, but the color seems slightly off in the reds???

If abstract realism is your game, then special effects filters or LR/PS plug ins can do wonders but for a standard photographic presentation, for the most part they don't work to more refined eyes. There are some folks on here that do wonders with Silver Efex Pro for B&W conversions but that's more so to present a conversion in the best tonal range, not so much to share a more garish presentation. Bottom line is, if it floats your boat...do it!
