How big a print from a 3.2 megapixel camera.

For several years, I have worked with an Olympus C740 DSLR.

It is a fun camera and at the time it touted a mighty 3.2 megapixels. It has handled all my photography need thus far. Lately I have been playing with the black and white options and have a few shots I would like printed.

My question is; how large a print will 3.2 megapixels produce? I was told it should handle an uncropped 8x10. The camera is set to 2018 x 1536 pixels. What is the consensus on the maximum un-cropped picture size?

The quick answer is, it depends. What it mainly depends on is the print density. If you were to print at 200 dpi (about the minimum for near photo quality), you would get 10x7 5/8 (2018/200=10.09" and 1536/200=7.68"). A little cropping will get you to an 8x10, which, while it might not be tack sharp, should be pretty respectable. If on the other hand you were to print at 300 dpi, you'd get a print 6 3/4"x5".

I had a 3.2 megapixel Kodak camera. I could get a pretty descent 8x10 from it.
