I own a new Nikon D5100 and I have been trying to find a way to save an image that I have zoomed in on, on my monitor screen. Any one got any Ideas? On my old Nikon Point and shoot it's simple you just zoom in on the image press menu and save as viewed. My new all singing all dancing D5100 won't let me do that. People have suggested cropping and trimming but I don't seem to have any joy there.

You can't save an image you've zoomed in on with the '+' button.

You can, however, go to Retouch Menu > Trim and edit the image there.

Yes it would, but being able to do it in the camera.

The OP would likely benefit from reading the D5100 users manual, which is a PDF file on the software disc that came with the camera.
Info about the Retouch menu starts on page 176. Trim is on page 179.

Would that not be the same as cropping.

Yes, but by going through the Retouch Menu instead of just using the '+' button, the OP can save the trimmed image as a new file.

Yep Sparkys right,

I got what I wanted through Retouch menu>trim and then using the zoom out button to hi-light the area I want enlarged then OK to save.
At last

Thanks
