The simplest way is to use image editing software.

If you want to do a logo you need a vector graphics program. It's also a good idea to have your watermark/copyright statement done a s a vector graphic too because vector graphics are scaleable and won't pixelate.

Most image editors use raster graphics and will pixelate.
