A portrait of my friend Aram, who recently won "Best Supporting Actor" for the Emmy nominated Netflix series EastSiders. I posted some portraits of him previously, but have a new shot to share. A friend of mine saw this shot and told me he immediately started thinking of the song "How Do You Sleep" by Sam Smith.
When I shoot portraits of actors (as opposed to headshots), I really enjoy being able to incorporate little personal details that tell a story about the portrait subject, rather than having to portray a character which is typical for headshots. In this portrait I specifically love the earring and the chipped nail polish.
Shot using the original Canon 5D with a Canon 100mm f/2.8 lens attached set to f/11, 1/160th sec, ISO 100. Lit using a single Neewer C-300 strobe at the lowest power setting, with a Neewer 27x20 inch softbox attached, and a silver reflector for fill.
