how does your looks affect your photography

I have faith in people enough to believe that looks are not a big factor when they choose a photographer. Your work should blind them from everything else...:sexywink:

I think that your personality behind the camera matters way more that how you look. But of course, things like good hygiene can prevent people from being put off by the photographer...so don't stink :er:

That is a good point, I should have more faith in people however it's not exactly that I don't have faith in them.. it's just always been my experience that people are shocked by how I look lol. I know that's a strange reaction, but based on my voice people expect me to look a certain way, I've seen eye's bulge out of someone's head when he first seen me. He even said I wasn't what he expected!

We all know that looks do matter to a degree though. The photo's on here with models seem to never be critiqued as hard as those of ordinary people.

Also, I'll try harder not to smell :P

There is no doubt that good lookin people benefit from their looks but in this case it doesn't make sense. People are only going to use you one time.
A way to make yourself more attractive to a client is through your personality. A great personality can get people to love ya no matter what you look like. :sexywink:

I think you're putting the cart before the horse a little. Develop your skills first, make a name based on the quality of your art/product, and people will want your services based on that. I've got self esteem issues myself, but I don't let it affect my professional life. I'm good at what I do, and that's all that matters.

It's true I'm not a professional photographer or selling my services right now, but I was just curious about it. I already know what kind of professional I want to be and what I plan to provide when I am ready, this is just a nagging thought and sometimes bringing it out and talking to other people helps to shed light on how silly it is. My plan though is not to start out now while I am learning by offering $20 sessions like I see so many others do. Yes it would fill up my portfolio and give me experience, but I want to be able to provide quality, not quantity. I want to provide photos to people that look professional, and of course I can't wait until I'm perfect at it because then that would be twenty years from now so obviously once I do start there will always be room to grow, but I refuse to be one of those people who turns photography into nothing more than a photo-mill. (sorry I rambled)

Post your photo or you don't exist (akin to the phrase "photos or it didn't happen")....I'm a beautiful turd...I'm not ugly but I don't have women clawing down my door to get to me either....not in a good way anyway....

As long as they cannot smell you (meaning either no cologne or too much), and you have a great personality, then they have some issues to deal with. Not you.

Though I wish it were otherwise, I think that how you look does impact how people perceive you (and hire-ability). I also believe it is more a factor for women than men. For men, I think as long as hygiene is decent and clothing is appropriate, all is good. It all likely subconscious.

It doesn't - I don't do self portraits. ;)

If a beautiful person is ugly on the inside, their beauty is diminished. Practice being beautiful on the inside.
Looking professional and acting professional mean more than looking pretty. Develop a sense of style that advertises how you see the world and how that will impact your photographic vision.
Only photograph people that are uglier than you are. ;)
Stop worrying about **** you can't change.

Just a few suggestions ...

I agree w/ you completely on other jobs but not a photographer.
:lmao:Where is e.rose when we need her to set up a poll on her wedding site....lol

Although I would love to agree with you, I can't. Studies have shown that the better looking members of society earn more and, in photography, you are selling yourself as much as your work so the OP does have an issue to deal with even if the problem is not really his.

But, yes, a great personality can help a great deal.

I think I'm more thinking.. someone views a professionals site, it's only natural to form an image of them in your mind, so when you finally do meet and the person isn't what you expected would that be awkward, uncomfortable, cause a problem etc.

Also, I do think beautiful women have sort of the same problem. Not a lot of women are going to hire a super sexy photog to do their photos- jealousy shows it's ugly head and sometimes us ladies can be catty. While I've never not hired someone because of how they look, I do have a friend that made it clear she would be looking for a male photographer because she did not want her fiance to be distracted during their engagement shoot by a beautiful woman. She wanted his focus all on her ha. It made me wonder then if that were the case for her is it common, and does it happen with the opposite as well, where people don't want someone who isn't attractive taking their pics because perhaps they think.. 'this person can't even make themselves look good, how are they going to make me look good?" etc..
