Well, I already told you what I would do to this photo (cropwise), if it were mine ... and after that anything contrast-related would have to be re-evaluated, I think. For the time being, it is a tad flat, very many greys...

It looks like you had a color picture and just desaturated it. Convert to B&W through channel mixer

It seems to be way too dark to me as well. Somebody mentioned crop this one really does need to have that right side cropped out it adds no interest at all. also the top needs to come down th get rid of the brks they are distracting. I don't know about how to convert digital to black and white so I can't help you there.
