Of course it's going to look like crap because your idea is crap. I am not trying to get this pic in bad quality. I want it in the highest quality i can get as it is when it's zoomed. Is there really NO way?

You did capture it. Now do the same thing that your camera did. Zoom in on the picture and crop the part out that you want. Seriously you are making this way more complicated then it is. The preview is a 100% zoom in on your image. So zoom to 100% and crop out what you want.

Honestly no. This is what everyone has been trying to tell you. Why do you think people spend so much money on expensive zoom lenses.

of course theres a way. set up tripod. use the zoom button in liveview. grab ur favorite smart phone. open up instagram. snap a pic with ur phone using instagram. BAM! ur an "awesome" photographer now!!!! Just make sure u add yesteryear processing and heavy vignetting and then ur a god!

without a macro lens or a zoom macro lens no. there is no way to get that same zoom. unless you crop...but then its just going to look horrible.

Listen, I'm telling you guys that when I crop the picture, I'm losing quality. Period. I absolutely need help finding a way to capture x5 zoomed image. I don't need a fancy lens, I need one smart guy to tell me the answer to this simple question.

THE ANSWER IS, THERE IS NO WAY WITHOUT A FANCY LENS. Its not going to happen. If you want that use a P&S and zoom in with that. But on a DSLR, and no macro or telezoom lens, ur not going to get x5 zoomed image. Thats simply there so u can focus on something in particular far away.

Anyone know how to capture a zoomed image? No? Ok. Then why does this feature exist?

I've literally even gone as far as too snap it with my camera phone, but the quality was even worse than cropping.

The 5 and 10* zooms on the LCD are simply magnifications of the base photo presented. They look sharper because the screen on the LCD is tiny so details appear more crisp than when viewed on a larger viewing screen like the computer. As said you already have the capture from the photo, you just have to crop the shot in the computer yourself. Of course doing this loses a lot of quality and the image size you get will be much much smaller as a result.

If you want sharp you can try upsampling the image with sharpening (such as using a program like Genuine Fractles) however you'll nearly always be getting less quality than if you were to use a proper lens to capture the photo

The feature exists to help manual focusing on the camera when the camera is on a tripod and you're taking a shot of a static (or near static) subject.

Everyone here is right. "One smart guy" is not going to tell you the answer you want, because lots of smart people have already told you what actually happens when you zoom. The camera is cropping the image when it shows it to you on the LCD. Your T1i can capture 15 megapixel images, the LCD you're looking at on the back of that camera is only 0.9 megapixels. So when you zoom in, more than 90% of the data captured by the sensor is not being shown. If you throw out the same data on your computer by heavily cropping the image as others have suggested, you will get the same result.

Aw, ok, I see now. The image I'm seeing is impossible to capture at the size I want it at... but... couldn't something like Magic Lantern include a feature to capture it? It just seems like I'm seeing a professional looking pic, but cant take it. very upsetting.

You're only seeing 920,000 pixels... As Overread mentioned, because the display is so small, the image will appear sharp. If you crop down on your computer and then zoom out so the image is physically 3" like it is on your camera, or make a little 2x3" print of it, you will experience the same effect. But to get high resolution files that you can view large, you need the proper macro equipment. If you have a macro lens and it's still not getting close enough, then you'll need extension tubes for it.

At 10 times on a macro lens extension tubes would not be enough; you're well into 10:1 magnification there and that kind of stuff is not only tricky but requires modified gear to get to (there isn't anything on the market that does 10:1 in a lens that I'm aware of - outside of attachments to microscopes).
